In connection to the participation in the ICLEI Congress in Malmö on the 11-13th May, a delegation from the city of Taoyuan, the 4th largest city in Taiwan, took the opportunity to learn more about hydrogen. The delegation, led by the Deputy Mayor, also included representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Transport and Research. The program, which had been planned in collaboration with Smart City Sweden, was based on requests for inspiration, knowledge and company meetings. Two experts from RISE began by presenting where Sweden stands today, the ongoing research, and gave several examples of exciting projects such as fossil-free steel production (Hybrit and H2 green steel), and Perstorp AB’s investment in methanol production of hydrogen. This was followed by presentations by company Plagazi AB, which develops a method for cost-effective and large-scale green hydrogen production from waste, combustible/non-combustible, sewage sludge but also hazardous waste. Catator AB was another company presenting. The company specialize in catalysts and catalytic process design and develops technology for the production of hydrogen from various fuels such as ethanol, methanol, biogas and ammonia. The afternoon ended with a presentation on why the municipality of Trelleborg, which has ambitions to be a forerunner of climate-friendly solutions in Sweden, chooses to invest in hydrogen, as well as their projects and planning.
